A nose job, or rhinoplasty, may be necessary in order to correct structural problems in your nose, or simply to improve its appearance and proportions. If you can’t breathe correctly, your nose has been damaged, or your nose is out of proportion to the rest of your face, you might want to consider changing the nose surgically or non-surgically. Even a small change to the nose can make a big difference to your ability to breathe or your feelings about your appearance.

Although the shape of your nose may change after the surgery, a well-done nose job can generally be considered a permanent change to your appearance. Also, if there is a structural problem with your nose, your insurance company may be willing to pay for part or all of the expense of the surgery.

The Ideal Candidate

Getting a nose job is not for everyone. You may be able to change the appearance of your nose through non-surgical methods, for example. If that would work for you, you would save a lot of money and avoid the risks of surgery. The most common non-surgical nose job is done through the use of a facial filler.

If you decide non-surgical methods won’t work for you and you also think the expense and risks are worthwhile, then it is important that you choose to have a nose job because you believe it will improve the quality of your life. You should never undergo the risks of surgery to satisfy someone else’s image of who you ought to be. You need to be: A minimum age of 13 years so that your face is done growing, a healthy non-smoker, someone whose goals and expectations for the nose job are realistic.
