Did you know that one of the very first areas of your face to show signs of aging is the area around your eyes, and that cosmetic surgery called blepharoplasty can help you look younger? Blepharoplasty, more commonly known as eyelid surgery, is among the most popular of all plastic surgery procedures performed by cosmetic surgeons each year on men and women alike. It is a relatively minor cosmetic surgery that can work wonders to give you a fresh, more youthful appearance!

When blepharoplasty is done, the drooping, sagging, excess skin and pockets of fat from the upper and lower eyelids are surgically removed. Besides giving a wonderfully rejuvenated look to your appearance, eyelid surgery can, in some cases, even improve your vision if it is being compromised by excess skin drooping down and obscuring your vision!

Eyelid surgery may be performed by either conventional surgical methods or the newer laser surgery techniques. If you are considering having it done, you should talk to a plastic or cosmetic surgeon to find out what your options may be as far as which of these types of eyelid surgery will be performed.

Usually, the goal of upper eyelid surgery is to lift the entire eyelid by removing any excess skin. Lower eyelid surgery is done to remove excess skin and fatty deposits that cause unsightly bags under the eyes. The end result of both upper and lower eyelid surgery is a younger, more relaxed and well rested appearance.

Although there are the usual risks associated with any type of surgical procedure, blepharoplasty is a basically minor surgery that typically goes smoothly for the majority of patients. In fact, most people who have eyelid surgery have returned to their normal activities, including work, within 10 days or two weeks. Typically, you can expect the results of eyelid surgery to be long lasting, but do bear in mind that as you age, your eyelids will age right along with you.
