Information on Saline Breast Implants

Many have benefited from breast augmentation surgery all over the world. This breast enhancement option can increase the size, alter the shape, and improve the contour of the breasts a great deal. When people visit our Bala Cynwyd plastic surgery center for a breast augmentation, we discuss with them all of their options for enhancement, which includes going over the different types of fillers for beast implants. One such filler is saline solution.

Unlike silicone breast implants, saline breast implants are breast implants that are filled with saline solution. Since they are filled with saline solution rather than silicone, the saline breast implants are much safer. In the case of a breast implant rupture, the breast implants will release the saline solution into the body harmlessly. For this reason, silicone breast implants were not available in the United States for many years, making saline breast implants the only available implants in the country. It should also be noted that breast implant ruptures are faster to detect with saline breast implants since the saline breast implants will deflate faster than a silicone breast implant.

There are some disadvantages to keep in mind with saline breast implants, however. Most notably, the saline breast implants are more prone to rippling than silicone breast implants, which may make them quite noticeable. When you get Bala Cynwyd breast augmentation and receive saline breast implants, you need to also keep in mind the possibility of capsular contracture, which involves scar tissue squeezing around the breast implants and causing the breast implants to become rigid. It should be noted, however, that this occurs more often with silicone breast implants than saline breast implants.
