The tummy tuck procedure (abdominoplasty) is a powerful and popular procedure offered by Philadelphia cosmetic surgeon Dr. Paul Glat to South Jersey and Philadelphia area patients. It is designed to subtract unwanted skin and tissue from the abdomen and tighten abdominal muscles. The end result is a flatter, smoother stomach and a more attractive figure.* In some cases, abdominoplasty is performed in conjunction with liposuction and various body lifting procedures for a more comprehensive treatment. Dr. Glat will work with each tummy tuck patient to determine the best way to achieve his or her goals.
Abdominoplasty may be performed under general or local anesthesia, depending on the patient. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Paul M. Glat will begin the tummy tuck procedure by making an incision along the patient’s bikini line. Then he may cut the navel away from the abdominal skin and reattach it after the skin has been repositioned. After moving and suturing the abdominal muscles to make them tighter, Dr. Glat will stretch the abdominal skin downward, trimming away excess skin and creating a new hole for the navel. Finally, he will stitch the skin into place, where it will heal during recovery.
Do you get nervous when scheduling any sort of surgery, even minor procedures? Does using strong anesthetics or vapors that render you unconscious make you feel uneasy? With the PRO-NOX™ Nitrous Oxide Delivery System at our plastic surgery center in Philadelphia, you are in control of your anxiety and pain relief during a medical procedure. Learn more here.
Depending on how much tissue is subtracted, Dr. Glat may recommend that some patients spend the night in the hospital after surgery. Stitches will be removed after about a week. Most patients are able to return to work after no more than two weeks, but it may take a month or more to feel completely normal again and see the full benefits of the abdominoplasty. Tummy tuck patients will need to wear special compression garments under their clothes to promote healing and prevent complications, such as blood clots, that might arise during recovery.
The mini tummy tuck, or partial abdominoplasty, is an alternative available at our Bala Cynwyd office to South Jersey and Philadelphia area residents who do not need a full tummy tuck. This procedure is intended for patients whose abdominal muscles do not require repositioning and who do not need much skin subtracted.
When performing a partial abdominoplasty, Dr. Glat makes a smaller incision. He will not need to reposition the navel. This means less scarring and a shorter recovery time, all with the same beautiful results expected from a full tummy tuck.*
