Rhinoplasty Procedures at Our Practice Near Philadelphia and South Jersey

Dr. Paul M. Glat is a trusted, double board-certified plastic surgeon who has received local and national awards for his expertise in cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries such as rhinoplasty. Although rhinoplasty is not necessarily an age-defying procedure like eyelid surgery and brow lift surgery, it can nonetheless dramatically enhance facial features. Many patients feel more confident with their appearance after undergoing rhinoplasty at our practice serving the Philadelphia and South Jersey area. In addition to its cosmetic benefits, rhinoplasty can help patients breathe more easily.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to change the size and shape of the nose for cosmetic or functional purposes. The surgery addresses abnormalities of the nasal bones as well as the underlying cartilage of the tip and septum. Because no two noses are the same, rhinoplasty is tailored to meet the unique needs of each patient.  The results that Dr. Paul M. Glat is able to achieve can complement and enhance the beauty of other facial features. During a rhinoplasty consultation at our practice serving the Philadelphia and South Jersey area, Dr. Glat will determine which surgical approach is most appropriate for your nose-shaping treatment.

Open or Closed Rhinoplasty

Most rhinoplasties can be performed using a “closed” approach, in which all incisions are made inside of the nose. Bumps on the bridge of the nose are addressed well with the closed technique.

Some noses require treatment with an “open” approach, in which a small incision is made on the underside of the nose. Open rhinoplasty allows for accurate correction of problems with the nasal tip and the septum. Surgery on the base of the nose can be performed in conjunction with either closed or open rhinoplasty.

Recovery and Risks

After the rhinoplasty procedure, a splint is placed on the nose to help facilitate healing. The splint is generally removed after one week, at which time most patients are able to return to work and resume their normal activities.  Packing is usually not necessary on the inside of the nose. Complications from rhinoplasty are rare and include bleeding, infection, and scarring. These complications are minimized when the surgery is performed by a qualified and talented plastic surgeon like Dr. Paul M. Glat.
