To meet our patients' needs, we offer a range of skin treatments at our Philadelphia-area cosmetic surgery practice, including chemical peels. We are happy to offer non-surgical treatment options in addition to our standard array of surgical procedures, because we realize that not everyone requires plastic surgery to meet their aesthetic goals. With chemical peels, patients can improve their complexion, reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and treat age spots and freckles. If you would like to learn more about the skin treatments we offer or are interested in scheduling an appointment for a chemical peel with Dr. Paul Glat, please contact our Philadelphia office today.
A chemical peel involves the application of a chemical or acidic agent to the skin that serves to remove the top layer of the dermis so that healthy skin underneath can be exposed. The results of chemical peels are temporary, but because the procedure can be performed quickly and is non-invasive, it is a great option for men and women who would like to treat superficial imperfections of the skin or those who want to refresh their overall appearance. By removing the damaged or dead outer skin cells, complexion, skin color, and skin imperfections can all be improved.
To perform a chemical peel, Dr. Glat will first thoroughly cleanse the skin to remove excess oils. The eyes and hair will also be covered so that they can be protected from the chemical solution that will be applied to the face. Once the face has been prepared, the chemical solution - typically an acid, such as glycolic, salicylic, lactic, or carbolic - is applied evenly across the skin. The duration of the treatment will vary based on what type of peel is being applied, but typically the chemical peel takes no more than 15 minutes, at which point the damaged outer layer of skin can be removed. After treatment, it may be necessary to apply lotions and sunscreens until the healing process is complete.
Having smoother, healthier skin can have a tremendous impact on a person's self-esteem and confidence, and in turn, this can affect the way he or she interacts with friends, family, and strangers. Acne, fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, age spots, freckles, dark patches, and dull skin color can all be treated with chemical peels, making it a tremendously beneficial procedure for a wide range of people. If you are seeking a quick and effective treatment to brighten your skin and refresh your appearance, a chemical peel may be for you.
Typically, light-skinned and light-haired individuals make the best candidates for chemical peels, but the procedure can be used on nearly anyone who suffers from wrinkles, lines, poor complexion, or skin discoloration. However, some candidates may require more comprehensive treatments to meet their goals, including individuals with excessive wrinkles or sagging skin. If you think you may be an ideal candidate for a chemical peel, we invite you to discuss your wishes with Dr. Glat in person.
Our team has a wealth of experience with chemical peels, and has helped numerous Philadelphia-area patients improve their appearance with skin treatments. We would be happy to discuss your goals with you and recommend a course of action if you are interested in a new look; contact our Bala Cynwyd plastic surgery office today to schedule a consultation.
