What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure for correcting and aesthetically enhancing the nose. It is commonly referred to as a nose job.
Benefits of Rhinoplasty
The benefits of rhinoplasty are many. Not only can the shape and structure of the nose be modified for reasons of appearance, this type of plastic surgery can also eliminate issues such as sleep apnea, a deviated septum, or severe allergy and sinus issues.
How is Rhinoplasty Performed?
There are both open and closed types of rhinoplasty. In open rhinoplasty, the physician makes a small incision in the columella, which is the septum that divides the right and left nostrils. Closed rhinoplasty is more common and does not involve any incision, as the entire procedure is done within the nose. In both procedures, the physician separates the nasal skin and soft tissues, reshapes it, and typically uses a stent or tape to immobilize the newly reconstructed nose. Patients may be under a general or local anesthetic.
