Rhinoplasty in Gladwyne, PA
Residents of Gladwyne, PA turn to Dr. Paul M. Glat, MD, FACS, when they need rhinoplasty.
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is more commonly referred to as a “nose job”. It is surgery to alter the shape and size of the nose. Rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures performed. Individuals with damage from previously broken noses or deviated septum often turn to rhinoplasty to correct both cosmetic problems and any resulting difficulty in breathing. An individual with a nose that isn’t proportion to their face or is misshapen often turns to rhinoplasty as well.
Benefits of Rhinoplasty
For individuals with defects inside the nose such as a deviated septum, a rhinoplasty can literally allow them to breathe easier. For others, the goal is to improve the symmetry and proportions of the nose, making it fit better into the overall shape of the face. A more symmetrical and proportional nose can dramatically improve the appearance of any individual.
How is Rhinoplasty Performed?
Incisions are made to access the bone and cartilage of the nose. Usually, the incisions are made from inside the nose to prevent visible scars from forming. Cartilage and bone are removed, and sometimes tissues or fillers are added, depending on the desired result. After reshaping the structure of the nose, the skin is carefully re-draped over it, and the incisions are closed. Usually, a splint is placed inside the nose to support it as it heals.
