Rhinoplasty in King of Prussia, PA
Dr. Paul M. Glat, MD, FACS, performs rhinoplasty for the residents of King of Prussia, PA.
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is surgery to alter the shape of the nose. It can be used to change the size of the nose, change the angle of the nose, straighten the bridge of the nose, and alter the appearance of the tip of the nose. Most people refer to rhinoplasty as a “nose job”.
Benefits of Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is performed for two reasons. One is to correct injuries or defects inside the nose that cause permanent congestion or impair breathing, such as a deviated septum. The other is to improve the symmetry and proportions of the nose in relationship to the rest of the face for cosmetic reasons. The nose occupies a prominent and very visible location in the middle of the face, and even a minor alteration of the shape or size of the nose can dramatically affect the overall appearance of any person, male or female.
How is Rhinoplasty Performed?
In a nutshell, incisions are made, and the bone and cartilage of the nose are reshaped. The incisions are placed in an invisible location, usually inside the nose, to avoid the possibility of scarring. After reshaping the structure of the nose, the skin is carefully adjusted to the new shape and sutures are placed in the incisions. Usually, the nose needs to be bandaged and splinted for about a week after surgery.
