ThermiVa™ in Philadelphia, PA
Located in Bala Cynwyd and serving Philadelphia and South Jersey, Dr. Paul M. Glat, MD, FACS, and his highly-trained staff, is now offering ThermiVa™, which works to correct laxity of the labia through safe and controlled radiofrequency heating of the skin tissue.
What is ThermiVa™?
ThermiVa™ is a type of nonsurgical vaginal rejuvenation procedure performed with a temperature controlled radiofrequency device that tightens tissue with thermal heating. Preliminary medical studies reveal that women undergoing ThermiVa™ show improvement in:
- Vaginal moisture
- Sexual function
- Urinary incontinence
- Vaginal tightening
A large number of women experience menopause symptoms such as sexual dysfunction, vaginal dryness, incontinence and vaginal laxity as a result of the natural aging process, changes in hormone production and vaginal childbirth. ThermiVa™ is the first non-invasive procedure available using controlled thermal energy to improve some of these uncomfortable medical issues. In addition, this non-invasive procedure is appropriate for making cosmetic improvements to a woman’s labia. ThermiVa™ is also painless and requires no downtime recovery.
The ThermiVa™ protocol requires three treatments that are performed approximately one month apart. Patients experience immediate improvements after each treatment. To maintain the best results, a patient may need maintenance treatments approximately nine months to one year after the primary procedure. In clinical trials, ThermiVa™ procedures have shown results in one or more of these areas:
One: Vaginal Laxity
The procedure tightens a woman’s vaginal opening or introitus and along the full-length of her vaginal canal.
Two: Labial and Vulvar Laxity
ThermiVa™ helps to tighten labial or vulvar tissues while reducing noticeable sagging.
Three: Atrophic Vaginitis or Vulvar Dryness
The procedure adds thicker and softer skin to relieve dryness without the use of hormones.
Four: Mild to Moderate Stress Incontinence
In combination with Kegel exercises, ThermiVa™ can reduce urine leakage, accidents, and urge symptoms while avoiding the need for mesh slings.
Five: Sexual Dysfunction
ThermiVa™ can strengthen muscular contractions and increase sensitivity, leading to greater sexual satisfaction for women and their partners.
How Does It Work?
ThermiVa™ technology uses temperature monitoring and regulation to ensure that the therapeutic temperature delivered to the subcutaneous layer is reached and maintained.
The ThermiVa™ process contracts tissue into a tighter bundle while helping tissues and nerves to heal and collagen production to increase. The therapeutic effect of radio frequency treatment is well-known and is commonly used in physical therapy.
Who Suffers from Vaginal Laxity?
Vaginal laxity is a common problem for women who have experienced vaginal delivery. The condition is also caused by:
- Lifting and straining
- Chronic constipation
- Activity that stretches the vagina beyond its normal capacity
Who are Candidates for ThermiVa™?
- Women with vaginal laxity and a loose feeling for any reason
- Women unhappy with the appearance of the labia majora
- Women having sexual dysfunction and orgasmic problems
- Women with a pelvic prolapse such as fallen rectum or bladder
- Women having difficulty retaining tampons
- Women with a symptom of urinary leakage
- Women in menopause with dry labia or vaginas
Is ThermiVa™ Safe?
The Food and Drug Administration’s cleared institutional review board study conducted by ThermiVa™ physicians makes ThermiVa™ a safe non-surgical alternative treatment for vaginal skin laxity. In hundreds of procedures, there are no incidences of patients’ experiencing burns, infections, blisters or nerve damage.
Are Anesthetics Needed for this Procedure?
Because the radio frequency device used for ThermiVa™ creates a comfortable and warm temperature level, no general or local anesthesia is required.
How Long Does The Procedure Take?
ThermiVa™ requires approximately 10 minutes for a labia majora reduction and 15 to 20 minutes for each vaginal tightening procedure. Three treatments scheduled a month apart are recommended.
What’s the Downtime?
There is no downtime required after ThermiVa™, and women can resume sexual activity the same day.
How Long Do The Results Last?
The results of a ThermiVa™ last an average time of between nine and 12 months.
