Shapely, Toned Legs

The goal of body contouring is fto enhance the natural shape of the body. Liposuction is an effective treatment for patients who only need to have excess fat removed from their thighs. A thigh lift, however, is for patients who have two cosmetic issues with their legs – excess fat and loose, sagging skin. Weight loss is the most common reason that people have loose skin on their thighs. The skin is stretched as a result of those extra pounds, and a reduced elasticity means that the skin is unable to re-contour to the underlying muscle once the weight is lost.

Thigh Lift Surgery

A successful thigh lift surgery is highly dependent upon talking with an experienced plastic surgeon who is able to determine the best technique for your individual needs. When you meet with Dr. Glat during your consultation at our Philadelphia-area plastic surgery office, he examines your thighs and works with you to determine a surgical intervention that will make you feel better about your legs.

Incisions are placed in locations where the resulting scars are barely noticeable and are easily covered by underwear or swimsuit bottoms. The incisions are used to access the fat deposits and also stretch the skin across the underlying tissues. Any excess skin is then removed, and the incisions are closed.

After your surgery, you will see some results of your thigh lift, but you will not see full results until all swelling has subsided. The most important part of your recovery is rest and limiting your activities as advised by Dr. Glat. You may have some discomfort, bruising, tenderness, and other symptoms. Dr. Glat may prescribe pain medication to help you relax during your healing period.

Thigh Lift Benefits

Like other body contouring procedures, a thigh lift helps patients achieve cosmetic improvements that are difficult to impossible with diet and exercise alone. If you are interested in a thigh lift after you have lost a large amount of weight, Dr. Glat may recommend other procedures as part of a post-bariatric body contouring treatment plan.

Thigh Lift Candidates

Thigh lifts are not intended as weight loss solutions, so patients should be in good health and practice good eating and exercise habits. Call our Philadelphia-area plastic surgery office today to learn more about thigh lifts and schedule your consultation with Dr. Glat.
