A facelift is an operation created to remove extra skin from the face. What it involves is some incisions around the ear, the skin is lifted up and the tissues underneath, or the muscular layer, is also tightened to help prolong the results of the surgery. The extra skin is removed, the incisions are closed around the ear and the patient typically remains overnight in the hospital for one night with some small drains to evacuate any fluid that may accumulate under the skin. The operation is typically used to address sagging of the skin of the neck, the jowl area and the nasal labial fold area as well. It can also be combined with other cosmetic procedures to enhance the total aesthetics of the face. The recovery, typically, is about two weeks. Sutures are removed at one week and then other sutures in the hairline are removed at the second week. Typically, patients are back to normal between the second and third week.
