Blepharoplasty refers to cosmetic surgery of the eyelid. What it involves is either surgery on the upper, the lower, or both eyelids at the same time. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty involves an incision where excess skin is removed, the eyebrow position is slightly elevated and some fat is removed from the undersurface of the muscles of the upper eyelid. Lower eyelid surgery or lower blepharoplasty involves either a small incision under the eyelashes, minimal amount of excess skin is removed as well as some excess fat. If no skin is required, then a transconjunctival blepharoplasty can be performed, which involves simply incisions on the inside of the eyelid with no external incisions. Both of these procedures are very simple procedures as far as the recovery, which lasts only approximately one week. Typically, stitches are removed at that time, bruising is typically gone at that time and you can resume your normal activities after that period.
