Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is an operation used to remove skin and fat from the lower abdominal region. The typical patient who undergoes this operation is typically--has had children. There are usually stretch marks or skin or muscle laxity of the lower abdominal wall. There are several types of tummy tuck and during your consultation we’ll discuss those types of options and which operation would be best for you. The operation involves an incision just above the bikini line area. The skin is elevated. The muscles underneath are tightened as necessary and then the extra skin is removed and, if necessary, the bellybutton will be moved as well. Two small drains will be placed under the skin for your recovery and typically the patient will go home the day after surgery and will be asked to move around and to try to exert as much normal activity as possible, but not to overexert yourself.
