What is Alma TED?

Alma TED (TransEpidermal Delivery) is a ground-breaking hair growth treatment that is  completely non-invasive. TED is designed to address hair shedding, hair loss, and hair thinning.

TED is an ultrasound-based system that uses sound waves' power and air pressure combined with topical Hair Care Formula. The sound waves and air pressure allow deeper penetration into the scalp of this powerful hair growth formula.

Together, the treatment increases blood flow, improves the health of the scalp, and ultimately stimulates hair follicles. The result is thicker, stronger, healthier hair. Alma TED is unique in that it offers outstanding hair restoration benefits without the discomfort and shedding that are typically experienced with other in-office hair treatments and procedures.

Candidates for TED

TED is designed for patients who are experiencing hair loss, shedding, or thinning. In general, any person suffering from hair loss or who wants to improve the overall thickness and appearance of their hair. More specific requirements include:

  • Generally in good health
  • In the early stages of hair loss (not fully bald)
  • Have not had recent steroid treatments

How do sound waves work to help with hair growth?

Using low-frequency “ultrasonic” acoustic sound waves and air pressure, called acoustic cavitation, TED drives topical hair growth treatments deep into the skin. The use of sound waves to increase the amount of penetration achieved with topical treatments is called sonophoresis or phonophoresis.

The “stratum corneum,” or the outermost layer of the epidermis, is made up of dead cells and lipids. These form the primary barrier between the body and the surrounding environment. The stratum corneum blocks the penetration of large molecules and moisture with its “brick and mortar” type of structure.  The cells can be thought of as bricks, called the corneocytes. The mortar, or lipids, holds these cells together, creating the barrier.

Ultrasonic sound waves set at a very specific vibration cause the very small, transient gaseous bubbles in the stratum corneum to expand and collapse at a rapid rate. This helps break down the brick and mortar wall. The lipids are dispersed, temporarily increasing the ability to penetrate. At the same time, the mechanical pressure caused by the sound waves achieves a push and pull effect–this facilitates the ability to deliver topical compounds through the stratum corneum layer.

This is how TED increases the penetration of topical hair growth treatments through the scalp and into the lower layer of skin. More of the active ingredients reach the hair follicles below, achieving more significant results.

What will happen during treatment?

TED is a 20-30 minute treatment that requires no downtime. Arrive with clean hair and without hair products applied to the scalp or hair.

Dr. Glat will start with a consultation to evaluate your scalp and hair. He will confirm that you are a good candidate for this treatment after assessing your scalp. From there, he will personalize a custom treatment plan for your needs.

Once the treatment begins, you will feel a warm sensation and a vibration or ringing sound. There is no pain. No needles or anesthesia are required. The Alma TED device works by using acoustic sound waves and air pressure to drive the active components of the topical Hair Care Formula deeper into the skin for higher compound absorption.

How many treatments are required?

Most patients notice improvements within a month. Additional treatments may be recommended for optimal results. We recommend at least three treatments, performed one month apart, for the most optimal, ideal results.

Aftercare

After your Alma TED treatment, do not wash your hair for 24 hours. We also recommended that you do not have your hair colored the following day.
