Dr. Paul Glat offers a neurotoxin treatment called Jeuveau. Modern-made using Hi-Pure™ Technology, Jeuveau® temporarily smooths the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines.

What is Jeuveau?

Jeuveau is an injection similar to Botox used to treat wrinkles. It is also called the new Botox or “Newtox” because it is an updated version of the same active ingredient used in original Botox cosmetic injections. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Jeuveau for wrinkle treatment in February 2019.

How is Jeuveau different from Botox?

Botox and Jeuveau contain the same active ingredient that relaxes the muscles beneath the skin. When used as a wrinkle treatment, these injections create a smoother appearance on the skin.

Botox is primarily used to treat frown lines or glabellar lines, which are the wrinkles between your eyebrows, along with horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet which are the wrinkles at the corners of your eyes. The FDA approved it in 2002.

Since Jeuveau has been on the market for a shorter time, it is currently only FDA-approved for treating glabellar lines. However, doctors may decide to use Jeuveau to treat other locations on the face and body, which would be considered off-label.

While both injections have the same active ingredient, the precise formulas vary slightly. Jeuveau may be a better option if you are new to injectables and want a less expensive alternative to start. It is also the better choice if you want to treat glabellar lines.

What are the benefits of Jeuveau?

Two trials reported by the FDA found that 67% and 71% of people saw significant improvements in glabellar lines after receiving Jeuveau injections. This is compared to a 1% improvement reported in the placebo groups.

Another benefit is that, unlike cosmetic surgery, no downtime is needed for wrinkle injections. You can go back to work and resume other activities as usual. However, you should avoid contact with the injection site so that the active ingredients do not spread and cause unintended side effects.

Some of the other benefits of Jeuveau include:

  • The process is quick and generally completed in fifteen minutes
  • Smoother appearance in your frown lines
  • Some immediate results with full results developing in one week

Jeuveau has the added benefit of starting or stopping whenever you want, without worrying about adverse effects. Your wrinkles may gradually return within six months of stopping treatment, but your creases will be less noticeable than they would be if you never had Jeuveau. Regular injections reduce stress on the skin while possibly slowing wrinkle formation, keeping your muscles and skin smooth to prevent “rebound wrinkles.”

How can I make my Jeuveau results last?

Some things you can do to extend your results with Jeuveau include:

  • Set up a long-term treatment plan
  • Do not vigorously scrub or massage your face for 24 hours after Jeuveau injections
  • Do not have skin tightening or laser treatments that heat the skin for at least three days after the injections
  • To decrease the risk of bruising, avoid using alcohol the day before or blood thinners for two weeks before receiving injectables
  • Avoid sun exposure. While sunlight doesn’t destroy Jeuveau, it speeds up the aging process. Sunlight breaks down collagen and elastin, making the skin thinner, weaker, and more likely to develop new wrinkles.
