Facial balance enhances a patient’s attractiveness because the human eye looks for equal proportions. When a facial feature is too small for the other areas of the face, people tend to fixate on that one feature. A face that is balanced, however, encourages the human eye to explore each feature and appreciate the overall appearance of the face.
The chin is one of the most important facial features when it comes to facial balance and proportion. The chin not only affects how a patient’s face appears from the front, but also from the side. Chin augmentation by Dr. Morgenstern improves the shape and size of the chin to bring the facial features into proportion. In fact, patients who are considering rhinoplasty may find out during their consultations that chin augmentation is a more appropriate procedure for their cases. The goal of chin augmentation surgery is to add definition to the chin. Dr. Morgenstern selects the proper shape and size of chin implant that will best complement your other facial features. The incision is made along the jawline or inside the mouth, and a pocket is created in the soft tissue of the chin. The implant is positioned within the pocket, and the incisions are sutured closed.
Patients will wear a compression bandage for a period of time to reduce swelling and ensure proper healing. Common symptoms experienced by our patients after chin augmentation surgery are bruising, swelling, tenderness, and redness. We recommend a soft diet for a few days because chewing food can be difficult and uncomfortable.
Chin augmentation is a safe and effective way to enhance the chin and bring a more attractive balance to the patient’s face. Once facial balance is achieved with chin augmentation, patients may find that they are much happier with their other facial features.*
